A lot more work goes into writing a book of High Fantasy fiction than words. There’s these here maps and all the details that are in them. My first sketches are on just a plan piece of paper that is meant for college writing. I began the book by first drawing the maps, but they don’t actually fit correctly in the format of a regular map, due to the way I drew them. Sadly, that means remaking the whole thing to fit an actual book!
Honestly, it hasn’t been so bad re-sketching the map itself, but it did take a little work and thought to make it scale into a true “global” view of the story and locations of the cities in the world. On the original map they seemed all bunched together and such, but I was able to put some good distance between them like they were meant to be. It was a nice change in design, for sure. Then I had to think on how the rivers of the world might naturally flow. (Something I did NOT think about when I first drew them…) This proved to be the next challenge as I had written specific descriptions of the rivers and how they flowed across the world, so I had to understand where the continental divide might be. Thankfully I believe I figured that out.
The full world map doesn’t have all of the city names and final details drawn on it yet because I was going to be adding them digitally. We’ll see how that goes. I am currently working on the final map, which will also be done in color digitally. Hopefully it comes out as well as I envision it so that I can finally put my book on the shelves for people to enjoy.Mythaleg, coming to a store near you! Actually, it will be out as an e-book first, so it will be available virtually everywhere! The final map will have some modifications to it as well, I think. I am not completely happy with the lower section of the world, so that will be readjusted a little bit. The next time you see this map, it will be finished! I am excited and it is coming along nicely!
